The Hanged Man card is all about limbo. It’s like hitting the pause button, hanging around, and waiting for clarity before moving forward.

The Hanged Man may pop up when you’re needing a little insight, or even when you have a tough decision to make.

The Hanged Man appears to us as a man hanging upside down with his ankle(s) tied. Traditionally, he appears with one ankle tied up to a tree branch, while still having one leg free.

This represents that he still maintains some control over the situation… he isn’t completely stuck.

The Hanged Man tells us to take a minute, surrender our beliefs or even our need for control, and open our minds to other options or possibilities.

But how do we get this definition from these images?

In all the images we can see that The Hanged Man is tied up. He looks stuck, in suspension, and even a little helpless. But the reality is, he could untie his own ankle (or as shown in The Housewives Tarot: unclip them). Even in the Everyday Witch Tarot, he could simply free his broom from the tree.

Also, if you pay attention to his facial expression, you’ll see a sense of calm, not at all distressed. He isn’t worried, he’s just taking a break.
